Welcome to FarmerDave Chinchilla, Guinea Pig and Rabbit Hay
1st CUT SPRING MEDLEY HAY 1st CUT SPRING MEDLEY is FarmerDave's earliest harvested hay; exceptionally early warm & dry weather permitted a limited harvest of this exceptional hay. 1st CUT SPRING MEDLEY is a wonderful combination of desirable grasses including Timothy, Orchard Grass, Blue Grass and even a touch of Wild Barley Grass. Nutritionally, 1st CUT SPRING MEDLEY is a beneficial compromise of Protein, Fiber and Fat, and is positioned between Regular 1st Cut Hay and 2nd Cut Hay Analysis; higher Crude Protein than 1st Cut, but less than 2nd Cut; higher Fiber than 2nd Cut, but less than 1st Cut; higher Crude Fat than 1st Cut, but lower than 2nd Cut. These characteristics make it the perfect hay to both control obesity, while also providing a higher level of nutrition. 1st CUT SPRING MEDLEY is a light green color, characteristic of fast growing early cut hays. FarmerDave will NOT add coloration to make it look more appealing to the human eye. 1st CUT SPRING MEDLEY may be stored for many months, and even up to a year when kept in a consistently cool/cold place that is dry and not in the light. Certified Test Results: Crude Protein 13.1 %, Crude Fat 3.0%, Fiber 30.4 %, Moisture not more than 9.8 %, Calcium 0.57 %. FIRST CUTTING TIMOTHY HAY AND CLOVER Sorry, CURRENTLY SOLD OUT. 1st CUTTING WITH CLOVER is similar to Regular 1st CUTTING, "but" with a generous amount of nice Clover Buds and Clover Stems. 1st CUTTING WITH CLOVER provides the coarser and higher fiber timothy hay that rabbits prefer plus the addition of many clover stems that are good for the teeth and chewing instinct, and also with many clover buds for a tasty treat. Be advised: 1st Cut WITH Clover has very high amounts of Clover, and Clover Hays can be difficult to dry, so there may be increased levels of hay dust with this product. If you need/want high amounts of Clover, then this is a very good choice; but if you have problems with dust and/or allergies, then this product may not be a good match to your needs. Lab Certified Test Results: Crude Protein 12.6 %, Crude Fat 2.5%, Fiber 41.6 %, Moisture not more than 8.4 %, Calcium 0.90 %. FIRST CUTTING TIMOTHY HAY 1st CUTTING is called "first" because it is the hay that is harvested earliest in the growing season. It has a lighter green color and is a more mature and coarser hay with stems and seed heads. Hay is the most important part of a rabbit?s diet, and 1st CUTTING is generally preferred for Bunnies and Rabbits. Vets recommend that rabbits be allowed as much timothy grass hay as they want, to prevent stasis, for weight control and for proper teeth maintenance and because it satisfies your pet's gnawing instincts. 1st CUTTING Timothy Hay is slightly lower in nutrition, plus slightly higher in fiber; and therefore may assist in controlling obesity. Hay characteristics differ from year to year. Hay is a product "Grown", not manufactured, so ultimately Nature decides the final characteristics of the product through artifacts like growth rate and harvest schedules/opportunities. 1st CUTTING hay is a lighter color than 2nd CUTTING , and there may be some yellow/brown as the grasses grow taller and maturity continues. This is Natural and is NOT harmful to your pet in any way. FarmerDave will NOT add coloration to make it look more appealing to the human eye. FarmerDave's 1st CUTTING includes the standard Timothy Hay plus a slight mix of legacy grasses (example: Orchard, Blue Grass, etc), and sometimes a touch of clover stems and buds. There is an abundance of 2 to 4 inch timothy seed heads that you pets will find tasty and delightful. 1st cut Timothy Hay may be stored for many months, and even up to a year when kept in a consistently cool/cold place that is dry and not in the light. Lab Certified Test Results: Crude Protein 10.2 %, Crude Fat 2.2%, Fiber 40.9 %, Moisture not more than 7.7 %, Calcium 0.41 %. SECOND CUTTING TIMOTHY HAY 2nd CUTTING is called "second" because it is the hay that is harvested after 1st CUTTING and after the hay has re-grown. The yield per acre is lower for 2nd because timothy hay is a cool season grass (that is why it grows well up North) with slower growth as the summer gets hotter. It takes more time, effort and gentle care to make 2nd CUTTING hay correctly. 2nd CUTTING Timothy Hay has a darker green color and is a more leafy and more tender hay with higher levels of nutrition. 2nd CUTTING Timothy Hay is predominantly green in color but may be mixed with a touch of yellow/brown depending on the weather and growing conditions. This Is Natural And NOT Harmful To Your Pets In Any Way. This year's 2nd CUTTING Timothy Hay crop is a greener and wider leafed hay, compared to last years crop. 2nd CUTTING is preferred by most hay eating small animals (Bunnies, Rabbits, Guinea Pigs, Chinchillas, Gerbils, Hamsters, Mice, Rats, Tortoises). Our 2nd CUTTING Timothy Hay is more of a premium specialty hay that is harder to find for purchase than 1st Cutting. 2nd cut Timothy Hay may be stored for many months, and even up to a year when kept in a consistently cool/cold place that is dry and not in the light. Lab Certified Test Results: Crude Protein 18.6 %, Crude Fat 3.9 %, Fiber 30.9 %, Moisture not more than 8.8 %, Calcium 0.74 %.
